PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Provides assistance to the Process Controller: Steam for the continuous and efficient operation of the Ash, Coal & Auxiliary Plants and to ensure that the plant remains clean at all times operating in a safe and efficient manner.

REPORTING TO : Production Foreman

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Takes and hands over shift.
• Carries out Plant related tasks on instruction from the Foremen, Process Controller Steam.
• Conducts a section walkabout to inspect plant for start-up and completes checklist.
• Checks the Ash belts for defects and washes the pulleys.
• Clears blocked ash hoppers and operate water valves to the hoppers.
• Clears Economiser hoppers, blocked plenum chambers and operate water valves to the chambers.
• Maintains clear hydro seals, operate water valves to seals and clears blocked hydro seals.
• Clears paddle ash extractors when jammed.
• Washes ash basement twice a shift and ensures the drains are kept clear of build-up.
• Removes ash spillages around conveyors and hoppers.
• Reports defects or any unsafe conditions to Process Controller Steam.
• Removes and replace covers on Hydro seals and plenum chambers after cleaning.
• Inspects condition of rollers, idlers and conveyor belts and reports defects to Process Controller Steam/ENG
• Check the coal and Ash conveyor gearbox oil levels and report if levels are low
• Prioritize filling of boiler coalbunkers, Monitors and controls coal flow onto the Coal belts and into the bunkers.
• Co-ordinate operation of coal conveyors. Stops and starts conveyor belts.
• Record weight meter readings before and after coaling each boiler bunker.
• Lash coalbunkers to prevent slag and fines build-up.
• Lash coalbunkers when emptying for a boiler shut.
• Clear magnet from metal objects.
• Clear all coal spillage, and wash coal tunnel basement.
• Monitor and control Ash Pit and Ash Skip levels.
• HP cleaning of Boilers.
• Assist Process Controller Steam with related task at Power Station e.g. Opening & closing valves

SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

• Ensures a safe working environment with the development of safety and housekeeping strategies.
• Ensures that the Section complies in all respects with the relevant statutory requirements (OHS Act, Legal Appointment, etc) by implementing the necessary control measures and rectifying inadequacies and non-conformances.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Essential Qualifications

• Matric and/or N3 Engineering Certificate or N3 Pulp and Paper Certificate (4 subjects)

Minimum Experience

• Minimum 3 months experience in a similar position
